From March 9–13, 2026, CWHS will celebrate its seniors’ capstone work during Senior Projects Week an event highlighting the depth, ingenuity, and passion of its students.
For CWHS seniors, the Senior Project is a journey of exploration, independence, and skill-building. Students immerse themselves in a topic of personal interest, guided by dedicated faculty mentors, and develop projects in one of three distinct formats:
-Research Paper: A comprehensive 25-page exploration drawing from primary and secondary sources.
-Artistic Project: A creative expression of ideas through visual, performance, or media arts.
-Practical/Design Project: Hands-on projects solving real-world problems or creating innovative solutions.
Past projects have spanned a remarkable range of subjects, from exploring the ethics of human genome editing and analyzing systemic racism, to designing sustainable innovations inspired by nature, crafting pilot episodes for television, researching global finance, and creating original theater to inspire activism. Seniors have also launched businesses, uncovered family histories, conducted astrophysics research, designed board games, invented ways to reduce plastic waste, and reimagined baseball fields.
Building Skills for a Lifetime
The Senior Project process integrates targeted curriculum blocks to help students succeed:
-Research Block (end of 11th grade): Developing skills in interviewing, surveying, and observation.
-Art Block (December): Encouraging creative responses regardless of project type.
-Senior Writing Block (January): Refining writing and presentation skills to complete the project.
Each student partners with a faculty advisor beginning the summer before senior year, meeting weekly to receive personalized guidance and support throughout the process.
The Culmination: Public Presentations
The Senior Project experience culminates in a public presentation, where students share the results of their efforts. During the week of March 9–13, 2026, seniors will deliver lecture-style presentations to parents, teachers, and peers, reflecting on their journey, offering insights, and engaging audiences in discussion.
